Our story...

Picture
Imagine a family of musicians - classically trained with a bent for progressive rock.  This was our story but with a twist.  Not only were we a family band, but our instruments were highly unusual for rock music!  Art in America is the first rock and roll band to feature a symphonic pedal harp, Japanese koto and Indian tambura played by our sister Shishonee (Ruetenik) Flynn.  Our lineup also includes Chris Flynn on guitar and vocals, and brother Dan Flynn on drums with Jim Kuha on bass, bass pedals and guitar.  Imagine too that the band Art in America creates its own art.  Both albums Cloudborn and Rise showcase the vividly imaginative artwork of drummer, Dan Flynn, who was trained in film production, animation, and is a talented painter and artist.

Art in America toured extensively opening for bands like U2, King Crimson, Captain Beefheart, Gary Numan, Split Enz, Adam Ant, Bill Brufford, Steve Hackett, and Roxy Music.  We reached the pinnacle of success in 1983 with the successful release of our first album "Art in America" on CBS Pavillion records.  Over time, band members raised families and developed second careers.  Meanwhile, songwriters Chris Flynn and Jim Kuha steadily continued writing songs over the ensuing years.  Recently, the band teamed up with Jeremy Holiday at Iconoclassic Records to release two albums, with the album RISE featuring new music that has never been heard before.

Our latest album RISE (on vinyl and on CD) is now available for on Iconoclassic Records.  Also available on Iconoclassic Records is our original album Art in America (on CD) which has been directly sourced from producer Eddie Offord's original master tapes and includes two live-in-concert bonus tracks "Won't it Be Strange" and "Insult the Fashion".
